Marine development is stable while improving quality! 2023 China Marine Development Index Report Released

The "Report" shows that China's marine development index in 2022 is 120.6, an increase of 2.5% over the previous year, and the quality of marine development is stable and improving. China's marine development in 2022 will present the following characteristics:

First, the development of the marine economy and the improvement of people's livelihood resonate at the same frequency. The gross marine product value was 9.5 trillion yuan, an increase of 1.9% over the previous year. The added value of emerging marine industries increased by 7.9% over the previous year. The per capita net income of marine fishermen reached 32,000 yuan. Second, scientific and technological innovation capabilities continue to increase. The per capita R&D investment of key monitored marine scientific research institutions decreased compared with the previous year, but the number of R&D personnel increased by 7.0% compared with the previous year, and the number of patent authorizations per 10,000 marine R&D personnel increased by 2.8% compared with the previous year. Third, the ecological environment is stable and improving. The proportion of coastal waters with excellent water quality (Class I and II) increased by 0.6 percentage points from the previous year. 60 kilometers of coastline, 2,640 hectares of coastal wetlands, and 519 hectares of mangroves were constructed and restored. Fourth, the ability to develop and utilize resources has been significantly improved. Offshore wind power generation increased by 116.2% compared with the previous year, and the daily desalination capacity increased by 500,000 tons compared with the previous year. Fifth, high-level opening up continues to expand. The container throughput of international routes increased by 5.0% over the previous year, and the actual use of foreign investment in coastal areas reached US$148.4 billion, a record high. Sixth, the level of marine management has been further improved. A total of 239 marine disaster warnings were issued, the number of marine observation stations increased by 46 compared with the previous year, and 42 currently valid agreements in the marine field were signed with other countries and regions.
